I enjoyed reading this first blog post by Marina McLaren:
I connected a lot with what Marina said about how disconnected she felt from her peers, and the feeling of being scared and alone really resonates with me. I think it’s important to recognize how difficult of a time it was for all of us during that time, for students, teachers and workers. Beyond that, it’s also good to recognize how great of a job teachers did with transitioning to this new mode of learning.
Especially in a time during COVID when things felt so disconnected, in my personal experience with online learning, it was amazing to strengthen my relationship with family at home before embarking on my journey to the island for in-person learning at UVic. Having the flexibility with courses helped facilitate this, especially reconnecting with friends during online classes and being able to meet in person with them again. Marina also highlights a similar notion in their blog post regarding online courses being nice to fit into unique schedules, much like my experiences during COVID and even now taking this course.
